AbstractIn this study, a Geographic Information Server (GIS-server) has been designed and implemented. The GIS-server is a system that has a model for retrieving and storing geographic data from a typical GIS database, called Arc/Info for the WWW. It proposes the GIS-server system to improve the mechanism that is used to store and retrieve geographic data in order to reduce network bandwidth and error. This error may occur from several causes e.g., an irrelevant or an incorrect of query which is made by users and the query that the server does not has the requested data. A retrieval mechanism is designed and built to interface between Arc/Info and GIS-server. Then, a model for storage mechanism is developed to store geographic data that is retrieved from Arc/Info as HTML which is readily accessible by the WWW.
