AbstractFail-Stop signature (FSS) is a digital signature with an additional property that the presumed signer can prove to third parties that a suspected forged signature is indeed a forgery. Thus the signer is secure even against computationally unrestricted forgers. The name of fail-stop signature comes from the fact that the system can be stopped if there is any forgery. A new fail-stop signature scheme, where unforgeability is based on RSA-root (RSA Inversion) is proposed. The RSA Inversion scheme enhances the digital signature scheme based on the identification scheme suggested by Okamoto by combining it with fail-stop signature concept. It provides two main advantages, first it is an alternative construction of fail stop signature scheme, in case one of the unproven assumption is broken, second its efficiency is compared very well with the ordinary digital signature. Moreover, the length of secret keys and signature of RSA Inversion scheme requires less than those of the two previous efficient fail-stop signature schemes based on discrete logarithm and factoring.
