Abstract | Across the last couple of years, the curiosity of scholars, practitioners, and academicians in the relationship between psychological empowerment and employee engagement grew substantially. The private and public sector companies have been extensively using employee empowerment initiative programs for improving overall employee performance. Elevated engagement level of employees and job satisfaction is favorable for every company since they are expected to mitigate the intention of turnover as well as welcome new clients hence helping in the growth of the company. Therefore, this research report aims to explore how psychological empowerment with its dimensions (meaning, competence, impact, and self-determination) and job satisfaction with its factors (intrinsic and extrinsic) can influence the engagement level of employees in the Nepalese IT industry. The research is conducted on primary data collection from 209 employees working in different IT sectors in Nepal. Purposive and convenience sampling techniques using quantitative research method was used to collect data and questionnaires were distributed to different private and public companies. In attempt to identify the intensity and significance of the association between psychological empowerment, job satisfaction and employee engagement, statistical tools such as correlation, reliability analysis and hierarchical multiple regression were used. Results from the analysis indicated positive and significant relationship between meaning and self-determination dimension of psychological empowerment and employee engagement. However, the competence and impact dimension were found non-significant predictors of employee engagement. Similarly, job satisfaction and its factors (intrinsic and extrinsic) revealed to have positive and significant influence on the engagement level of employees. Finally, in a nutshell, the results of the study revealed the significance of employee empowerment, in the age of globalization, allowing the company to quickly adapt with the dynamic environment and promote employee engagement. This research will further help company management and executives acknowledge employee job satisfaction and how it can empower employees to be efficient and productive. Practical and managerial implications are provided in the end for future research purpose. |
