AbstractThis study dealt with the performance of two deterministic and lumped models in daily flow forecasting and the development of hybrid approach turned out from a combination of those deterministic models and an autoregressive component. TANK and NAM models have been used as lumped and deterministic rainfall-runoff models to evaluate their performance in daily flow forecasting, though they were intended for flow simulation. As the output from both models was not satisfactory, AR( 1) model has been employed as stochastic model in modeling the error series generated from observed discharges and computed discharges by the TANK and NAM models. For the purpose of the daily flow forecasting in Bagmati river basin and Nan River basin, TANK, NAM, TANK+AR(l), and NAM+AR(l) have been used with lead time of one day. It was observed that the hybrid model has increased the modeling and forecasting capability and it was found better performance for daily flow forecasting in comparison with ยท performance of the purely TANK and NAM models. Therefore, the hybrid model is considered as the accurate daily flow forecasting model.
