AbstractConjunctive use of ground water and surface water for domestic and industrial demands is presented by a three-step modelling approach. Approach deals with the development and application of a mathematical model under a dynamic and stochastic setting for analysing the long-term regional water system planning issues in water supply by explicitly considering various important criteria. Applicability of the approach is illustrated by a case study of the BacninhDapcau region in Vietnam. In the first step, a stochastic dynamic programming model is used to derive the long-term operation policy guidelines for alternative plans. In the second step, a lumped simulation model is used to evaluate the alternative plans, considering a ten of synthetic sequences of streamflow and rainfall; and, in the final step, choosing the best or most satisfactory alternative plan by means of a suitable multiple-criteria decision-making technique ( Compromise programming ) based on known or anticipated decision maker's preferences is used for indicating the system design capacities and water allocation plans.
