Abstract | An integrated pig- fish farming system in which all the production wastes from fattening pigs fed a diet available to Vietnamese farmers was used to fertilise either a monoculture of mixed sex tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ) or a polyculture of mixed sex tilapia and hybrid catfish ( Clarias macrocephalus * Clarias gariepinus ) was compared. The stocking rate of mixed sex tilapia was 2 fish I m2 and hybrid catfish was 0.25 fish I m2 in fish pond under two forms, monoculture ( Mixed sex tilapia only ) and policulture ( Mixed sex tilapia and hybrid catfish ) . In both of treatments were applied by pig manure that collected from the pig - house in west farms of aquaculture program every day. The performance of the fish, pigs was evalulated over a 90 days period. Pigs ( mean individual weight of 55.33 kg ) were fed a diet of grower, village rice bran and water hyacinth ( Eichhornia crassipes ) twice daily and maintain mean daily weight gain of 0.372 kg. Fish ( Mixed sex tilapia ) with mean initial weight of 34. 06 ± · O. 51 for both of treatments and fish ( Hybrid catfish ) with mean initial weight of ( P8 ) 22. 83 ± 0. 65, ( PlO ) 21. 77 ± O. 27 and ( P12 ) 19 . 91 ± 0. 23 in treatment 1. After 3 months of experiments, the mean final weights of Pigs 88.89 ± 3 .18 kg I pigs, Tilapia was 68. 55 ± 0. 6 g in treatment 1 and 65. 07 ± 0. 6 g in treatment 2 and hybrid catfish was 70. 65 ± 0 . 4 g in treatment 1. Survival rate of mixed sex tilapia in treatment 1 was 92.75 ± 1.6 % , 90 . 33 ± 2.3 % in treatment 2 and 89.33 ± 0.92 % to hybrid catfish. Mean daily live weight gain of pigs were 0.372 kg I day, daily weight gain ( g/day ) of tilapia were 0.38 ± 0.6 in treatment 1, 0.34 ± 0.1 in treatment 2 and hybrid catfish were 0.54 ± 0.19 g/day and specific growth rate ( % I day ) of tilapia was 0 . 78 ± 0.10 in treatmentl, 0.72 ± 0.15 in treatment 2 and hybrid catfish was 1.32 ± 0.09, the net yield of mixed sex tilapia was 3246.6 kg I ha I year obtained in treatment 1 ( + catfish ) and 3232.8 kg per ha / year obtained in treatment 2 ( - catfish ) . The appearences of tilapia fingerling increased valuable production in . the model. so farmer's income was improved. After 3 months for producing the production, farmers got high profits, net farms income was baht 8443 in Thailand and dong 3,354560 in Viet nam. Based on the household financial calculation for farmer, the efficiency of the model in integrated pig - fish farming systems was considered, net farms income increased, the farmer should be utilized technology and efficiency of the model to produce productions in the further. |
