Abstract | From this study, it was found that phosphorus loaded into Chao Phraya river at the study area are mainly come from two sources : agricultural and domestic. From the survey and direct measurement, contribution of domestic source at river bank community was 404 kg P/yr, and indirect estimation from agricultural source was 1,016 kg P/yr. The contribution of other potential sources such as river bottom sediment and connected klongs were also investigated. River bottom sediments were found to contribute negligible amount of phosphorus under the existing condition, while significant quantity of phosphorus were estimated to contribute from klong basins. Nutrient concentrations in the river were investigated on a seasonal basis. The results revealed that there was no variation in N and P concentrations observed during dry and wet seasons. As a consequence, eutrophic state was assessed using TSI and OECD boundary value of classification. In term of TP, the study section was within the criteria of eutrophic. However, due to the fact that residence times of river water in estuary are relatively short, it was believed that possibility of eutrophication occurred in the study section was small and the amount of phosphorus added by the sources in the study area had little effect on the natural concentration of the river at the present time. |
