Abstract | This thesis focuses on computer-based information systems for urban planning m purpose of applying into an urban planning agency in the context of Vietnam. The study identifies problems relating to data and information for urban planning in terms of master plan preparation for Hanoi City, one of the two biggest cities of Vietnam. It reveals that the data and information required are inadequate and scattered in a large of number of government departments and offices; data collection is undertaken with many difficulties in terms of availability, quality and disaggregation; data analysis and management are not appropriate enough as yet. The existing status urgently requires setting up computerbased information systems in order to improve urban planning process and to enhance quality of urban planning. In accordance with requirements of urban planning and application of information technology into this field, this study suggests guidelines for the planning agency to prepare the foundation and to establish a computer-based information system supporting the process of urban planning. In addition, several necessary further studies are also recommended. |
