AbstractThree levels of nitrogen at 60, 90 and 120 kg ha-I in the form of green l eaf manure eac h of from Leucaena l eucocephala and Gliriciclia sepium were compared with nitrogen at 60 kg ha1 from urea and contra l (no nitrogen) for Suphan Buri 90, rice variety in randomized complete block design under irrigated condition at Agricultural System Farm of Asian Institute of Technology from January to June 1995. The purpose of conducting the experiment was to sort out the effect of green leaf manure on agronomical attributes and yield attributes of rice as we l l as to find out the change in plant N content and residual impact of application of green leaf manure on soil N content and pH. The resul ts reveal ed that application of green leaf manure N at 120 kg ha1 from both of Leucaenc1 and Gliriciclia Pfoducecl yie ld and agronomi cal components similar to that of N at 60 kg ha- from urea. The findings also concluded tha~ green leaf manure N at 120 kg ha- could completely substitute N at 60 kg ha- from urea and green leaf manure could be used in the form of top dressing. There was significant increase in N content of rice _plant at booting t~ge by the use of green leaf manure N at 90 and 120 kg ha over N at 60 kg ha- from urea and control treatments. The finding confirmed that green leaf manure had no significant effect on soi 1 N and pH. It was also confirmed that the contribution of green leaf manure in producing biomass yield, straw yield, and grain yield over control was significantly increased. Grain yield and straw yield obtained from N at 120 kg ha- from green leaf manure were at par with Nat 60 kg ha- from urea. The increase in grain yield over control in green leaf manure treated plots was from 19 to 493 . o~ever an increase of 533 grain yield over control was obtained a t N 60 kg ha from urea treated plots. There was a positive relation wi t h grain yield in attributes of tiller number per hill at 60 clays after transplanting, 503 flowering days, plant height , leaf area index, number of filled grains per panicle, 1000 grain weight, number of panicles per square meter, biomass yield per square meter, and straw yield. Among all the treatments, economically N at 60 kg ha-I from urea produced 233 return on investment with a marginal net return of 7. There was zero marginal net return in control treatment while in all the other treatments a negative marginal net ret~rn was observed. The highest gross return of Baht 16152, 15792 and ~ 14690 ha- were obtained, respectively from N at 60 kg from urea, 120 kg ha- from Gl iTiciclia and Leucaena
