AbstractPlastic pollution is a rising problematic of modern era. Its production and disposal increase exponentially, and in 2015, 300 million tons of plastic were thrown away, half of it after having been used only once. Plastic waste is poorly recycled, and lasts from 450 years to forever in natural areas. 69% of all plastic ever produced still exist on earth, polluting natural environment, jeopardizing human health, threatening our economies and destroying biodiversity. The problem of plastic waste is even more striking in Thailand, where consumption of disposable plastic is particularly high and waste management systems particularly poor. Reducing plastic waste is a necessity of the utmost urgency, particularly in Thailand. This research study aims to help achieve this objective by designing a strategy to reduce the consumption of disposable plastic mugs, one of the most largely consumed single-use plastic product in Thailand. This research study has assessed that the main obstacle to the reduction of disposable plastic mugs consumption was the lack of a convenient alternative product. This research study has thoroughly analyzed what was needed for an alternative product to thrive and change consumer behavior. It has analyzed why current alternatives were not used on a larger scale, and has designed a convenient alternative product that could be adopted by most customers. This research study also provides strategic advice for a successful commercialization of this product, to truly reduce disposable plastic mugs consumption in Thailand and help tackling plastic pollution issue in Thailand.
