AbstractAn investigation towards the present construction situation in Asian countries and present design codes used in Asian countries is made, which strongly motivates Asian people to establish a Concrete Model Code for Asia (CMCA). In order to make it clear how many differences among Asian codes, comparisons of design codes used in Asian countries are carried out according to (1) basic comparison which includes method (fundamental principles), loading and safety factor, (2) ultimate limit state comparison which includes flexural and shear capacity where experimental data are used. (3) serviceability limit state comparison which includes deflection and crack width, and ( 4) seismic load comparison. Then, on the basis of former comparison and personal ideas, the proposals for CMCA of common design formula of flexural capacity and shear capacity are made, the proposals for CMCA of common seismic zone classification with definition of zone factors and seismic resistant classification of structure are made. Finally, the conclusion is made and future task towards CMCA is proposed.
