Abstract | The two-stage equalizer is described in this study. The scheme employs the Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE) and differential detection. The Recursive Least Squares (RLS) adaptation algorithm is used to adapt the coefficient of equalizer because the short training sequence is required. The first equalizer is mainly equalize the intersymbol interference (ISI) resulting from the multipath propagation. The second equalizer is mainly equalize the intersymbol interference (ISI) resulting from the Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) modulation technique. In this study the simulation model is referred to the GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) systems. The performance is considered by measuring the bit error rate versus Eb/No (the energy per transmitted bit divided by twice the noise spectral density). The performance of the first equalizer is corresponding to the existing result JOHNSON, D.A. (1990). The performance of two-stage equalizer is worse than the first equalizer because the output signal of the first equalizer does not correspond to GMSK signal so the second equalizer cannot improve the performance. |
