AbstractToday, International joint ventures are widely recognized as a viable strategic option. Joint Venture are usually undertaken by one Multinational Enterprise (MNE) and a local partner. The Multinational Enterprise brings its furn-specific advantage (in knowledge, technology or capital) to the operation while the host-country partner traditionally brings knowledge of the local environment. Despite a lot of study has been done on international joint venture issues through different perspectives, the financial problems and issues of the joint ventures has not yet been emphasized. In this study, a detailed investigation of this aspect, based on the literature review and case studies special emphasis on financial problems and issues of European-Asian Joint Ventures focusing French-Thai Joint Ventures. In the study, literature review on financial management and joint venture issues in international business has carried out to identify the specific problems and areas. Furthermore, study on legislation governing the environment of joint ventures in Thailand has been done to support analyzing the issues. Based on the literature review, an analytical framework has been developed to analyze the problem and issues operating joint venture. Based on the analytical framework, questionnaire has been developed and arranged interviews with Managing Directors of two selected French-Thai Joint Ventures to examine the significance of the financial problems and issues in practical world. Based on the information achieved an attempt has been made to prioritize the problems faced and suggest possible solutions to overcome. Recommendations have been made to the joint venture firm itself and host country/government in order to create prosperous future of the international joint ventures.
