AbstractThe Thai bond market has just taken off seriously since 1992 after the enactment of the SEC Act. The bond market plays an imp01tant role in mobilizing and collecting :financial savings from ultimate savers in an economy, and in giving businesses more alternatives to raise funds with lower cost compared to the cost of the bank loan. The bond market is a rather new thing in the Thai :financial system but, f01tunately, the auth01ities perceive its necessity as an essential in.frastmcture to stabilize the :financial system Nonetheless, the number of personnel having good knowledge about the bond market as a whole is quite limited and many a1ticles on the bond market seem scattered. This research tiies to depict the stmcture of the bond market in its cull'ent being- both the primary market and the seconda1y market. All impoitant concerned agencies and their functions are explained. Also, this research provides the evolution and the rationale of having the bond market in Thailand. In the last chapters, the impediments which still keep the bond market from moving ahead and recommendations are cited. However, this research is only limited for the Thai bond market. It may be used as the guideline or reference for developing the bond market in countlies around this region. Finally, this research may help to increase the number of personnel having knowledge about the bond market. Although it does not discuss some detail in some aspects, anybody who wants to study more can use it as the guideline for finther study.
