AbstractThe main purpose of remote sensing application for geological study is to discriminate among various rock units. An attempt has been made to cany out rock unit discrimination and geological lineaments delineation by applying various developed image processing methods. The study area has been purposely selected in Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand because there are different rock units there and remote sensing data, both Landsat TM and ERS-1 SAR, are readily available for carrying out research. The digital images were generated by applying various image processing methods in addition to the statistical results. The various methods employed in the present study are linear contrast stretching, False Color Composites of higher determinants combination, TM and SAR data fusion by RGB-IHS transformation with band replacing, hue image RGB color composition, and filtering for geological lineaments. An attempt towards unsupervised and supervised classification for rock unit discrimination did not yield satisfactory result. Therefore, the visual interpretation of generated images has been used to prepare a generalized geological map and a geological lineaments map. The GIS packages, namely PC ARC/INFO, ERDAS and IDRISI, were also used to produce DEM and computerized thematic maps.
