AbstractThis study is concerned with the process of selecting the industrial robots for specific applications in machine loading and unloading operation. The process of selection is adapted in software database programming which has been designed for user friendliness who know little about robots. The selection process starts by coding the specifications of the robots available in the market using a suitable coding scheme and database. The next step is to specify the working conditions at the workplace and the user needs. An algorithm is used to transform these info1mation into suitably coded f01m. Selection of the feasible set of robots, for the specific application, is then done by a matching algorithm which compares the work requirement code with that of the robot in the database. After a suitable match between the requirement specifications with what is available in the database has been found a set of feasible robots can be specified. Final selection of the robot, from the feasible set, is done through simulation studies. The economic evaluation of selected robot on the otherhand, has been carried out on the basis of the return on investment (ROI). The work included in this thesis is based on actual technical data supplied by M/S Siam Sanitary Fitting Co., LTD. , Bangkok.
