AbstractMost automated warehouses have different designs and require a unique set of strategies to control warehouse operations. The warehouse under study is a deep-lane type with satellite vehicles, which is relatively complex compared to the ones used in previous studies. A simulation model was developed for this warehouse first, by identifying the activities in the system. Control strategies were then conceptualized according to the activities in the warehouse: the arrival, storage, rearrangement, and dispatch of items. The simulator SIMPLE++ was used because it is a powerful tool able to handle huge and complex hierarchically-structured models.
