AbstractMultimedia computer systems are required to store, retrieve, and communicate objects consisting of mixed data types, i.e., images, text, voice, video. An important aspect of multimedia services is their integration of elements retrieved from databases distributed across network. Integration of object components has time dependencies that must be satisfied at presentation time. A generic, platform independent framework is proposed for multimedia object behavior, object synchronization and integration, multimedia query processing and interactive composite multimedia presentations. The design is concerned with temporal and spatial features of multimedia composition and synchronization as well as handling the interaction with the user. A script based approach is adapted for modeling the presentation scenario and the user interaction. The overall design is based on the deductive object oriented paradigm. A complete example is presented and analyzed.
