Abstract | R&D consortia have been powerful weapons for catching up. Two critical functions of R&D consortia are the research and development of technology and the transfer of the technology to member companies. Regardless of the motives for joining a consortium, common to all is the expectation that all or part of the findings of the research will be transferred to members. Also, R&D consortia represent a new organization form. It is a great challenge for technology transfer. This research attempts to find the success factors for the transfer of the ghost cancellation (GC) technology within Taiwan's HDTV Consortium. Seven out of nine transferee members are surveyed. Four are defined effective; three ineffective in this technology transfer. Through comparative analysis between effective and ineffective companies, some variables are identified to be key or facilitating factors for the technology transfer within the HDTV Consortium (specifically the GC technology). Based on these findings, some implications are drawn for the member companies and the consortium to help better technology transfer. |
