Abstract | This exploratory study is the first step in understanding the current customs, attitudes toward quality costs, and Total Quality Management (TQM) modern practices in the Thai and Pakistani apparel industry. The research survey indicates the success factors of Thai apparel industry as well as the shortcomings that apparel manufacturers of Pakistan need to improve. With rising customer demands for better quality and increased foreign competition. Americans, Koreans, Japanese and Thai manufacturers in all industries have been implementing programs to improve the quality of their products. The Pakistani apparel industry, in particular, is under extreme competitive pressure because of the new GATT negotiations. Now the international competition will be on Price, Quality and Delivery. Consumers are becoming more and more quality conscious. Before the customer buy any product or service from any company they are looking for whether the company has got quality standards certificate or not. But Pakistani manufacturers are not giving special considerations to quality and timely delivery to cope up with the standards. A comparative study of Pakistan and Thailand Apparel Industry has been analyzed by the questionnaires and personal interviews to know the quality maintenance practices. To find out what are the shortcomings in quality maintenance; are they applying modern practices?. If no, why?. If yes, how and at what extent?. The major motivation behind this study is to find out how well the Thailand Apparel Industry is performing and what level of modern quality management practices are available there. Specific recommendations have been given on shortcomings, and the ideal quality maintenance inspection forms have been designed for the Pakistani apparel manufacturers to compete in the world apparel market. |
