AbstractComputer capability is considered one important factor, if not the most important, by numerous countries and companies. Computing is not yet the largest industry in the world but it has become the most important because of its power to transform the way people work. As other developing countries, Vietnam has to consume as much computer products as the development of the economy requires. The computer industry in Vietnam is regarded as consumption oriented and the utilization of the computer is promoted. This study describes the industry in more details by looking at the industry in supply, demand, and environment perspectives. The computer suppliers and industrial customers are surveyed on various descriptive factors in their organization and operation related to the computer supply and utilization. The role of the government to the development of the industry is described in the central of the description of the environment facing computer business in Vietnam. The result of these description is used to draft primary recommendations to the policy makers, investors and suppliers who are the main forces deciding the development of the industry in the future.
