Abstract | Fully aware of potential contribution of tourism industry to Vietnam economic growth, a tourism plan is very crucial. Unfortunately, no data or information regarding tourist profile and behavior can be acquired so far to do the job. Four important groups comprise Vietnamese overseas, Asian, European and the rest tourists. The research attempts to provide information about the trend, profile and behavior as well as their expenditure patterns of each tourist group arrivals in HCM City . The most interesting finding is a strong correlation between purpose of visit and the group classification. Three most important clusters recognized are: segment 1 comprising Vietnam overseas visiting families and friends, segment 2 consisting of Asian tourist for business and segment 3 encompassing European and the rest tourists for pleasure and vacation. Characteristics of each segment were described and analyzed for marketing planning. A generic marketing strategy detailing 4P's to target the segment 3 was developed for tourism company and authority. |
