Abstract | This study deals with a soft decision method for the GMSK signal at the output of the decision feedback equalizer. Soft decision is a confidence information of the detected output, which is provided for the further system with the hard decision values to enhance the error correction and error detection capability. This study proposes a new computational model for calculation of soft decision based on assumption of Gaussian noise in the received signal. A simple algorithm for computation of soft decision by using the equalization error is also derived. A complete simulation model for GMSK system has been implemented in Matlab environment. This model includes GMSK modulator, additive white Gaussian noise channel, recursive least-squares decision feedback equalizer as well as hard and soft decision, but it does not include encoder or decoder for forward error correction. No simulation results from the implemented model were yet available at the time of writing of this report. |
