AbstractThis research compares the performance of three different types of sub-bases: (1) stabilized sand-cement, (2) crushed rock, and (3) unstabilized sand for lightly loaded area on soft subgrade like Bangkok area. Some of the important engineering properties of the sub-base materials, related to the design of concrete block pavement are investigated. The laboratory investigation showed that the sand-cement has highest CBR (Soaked) value and then crushed rock and lastly sand. Furthermore, the performance of these three different sub-base materials were also judged from field investigation. Six different test-sections were prepared with different types of sub- bases and thickness. Then a full scale load tests were carried out to simulate light traffic load. Their performance was judged on the basis of deflection under different drainage situations. The field test results indicated that sand-cement showed the best performance then crushed rock and lastly sand (alone).
