Abstract | A field experiment was carried out to evaluate the comparative efficacy of
biological control methods against major cruciferous insect on Chinese Kale (Brassica
alboglabra, Bailey) under alternative methods of irrigation.
Commercial preparations of Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis, Aizawai) and neem
extract (Azadirecta indica, Juss) from four different manufactures and on farm
preparation of citronella grass (Cymbopogon wintereanus) leaf extract were used. These
treatments of Chinese Kale plots were under perforated irrigation and sprinkler
irrigation systems respectively.
The major pests monitored in the field were cutworm (Spodoptera spp.),
diamond-back moth (Plutella xylostella), cabbage semiloopers (Trichoplusia ni), and
aphids (Aphis gossypii Glov). Among them spodopteran were found to be most
dominant.
For Chinese Kale centari and florbac treatments, were better than the herbal pest
control agents (i.e. neembond, neemix, and citronella), under both methods of irrigation.
Similarly, citronella extract was more effective than other commercially prepared neem
insecticides under both methods of irrigation. |
