AbstractVirtual Paths are an integral part of the resource management and control hierarchy of A TM networks. They are embedded in the network to facilitate network management and to increase the direct connectedness of the network. In this study the effect of virtual paths in A TM networks is investigated. Its impact on the transport network architecture and systems is demostrated in comparison to the digital path scheme in STM-based networks. In this study the approach and cunent procedures of the reliability analysis in telecommunications networks are investigated. Finally, an effective scheme in estimating the reliability specifications of virtual path networks is proposed.
