| Abstract | In this thesis, a practical device for controlling electrical appliances has been designed and implemented where a programmable microprocessor has been used to control the switches of the appliances. The system being programmable provides flexible re-configuration without any hardware modification. A prototypical system was built to control the appliances based upon commands received from a remote-telephone set. the system uses an 8051 microprocessor which has proven to be inexpensive. A top-down design methodology has been adopted during the design process which gradually transformed a black box to a CPU control hardware unit. This has proven to be satisfactory. |
