Abstract | Microplastic contamination occurs in everywhere of the world ocean which estuary is a hotspot. Estuary is the inter-link between river and sea which is a hot spot for microplastic. Microplastics in this study were studied by collecting with Albatross device. The result indicated microplastic mean concentration from Prasae estuary sampling compose of 10.52 particles per m³ from 12 sampling sites. Microplastics were investigated the abundance and characteristic in the surface water of Prasae estuary. Microplastic fragments were found the most approximately 54 percent from particle type composition. However, the common microplastic color was translucent compose of 43.96 percent. Microplastic size were classified into 4 range including 300-500 μm, 500-1000 μm, 1000-2500 μm and 2500-5000 μm. The result showed the common size of microplastic is 1000-2500 μm accounting for 46.06 percent. The result of FTIR analysis showed PP was the most common microplastic polymer type of Prasae estuary. Prasae estuary is inter connected between river and sea which microplastic contamination can harm marine organisms as well as human health. |
