Abstract | The Biotol is an anaerobic up-flow filter with a desulphide system. It is a compact onsite treatment unit for domestic wastewater. It can treat organic substances i.e. TCOD, SCOD, BOD, PCOD, SS and oil & grease with removal efficiencies of 72, 60, 67, 82, 87 and 80 % respectively. The effluent pH, BOD, SS and oil & grease meet the Domestic Effluent Guideline (DEG) of Thailand, but cannot treat the nutrients (N and P) and sulphide to meet the DEG. Since it is easy to apply the Biotol to treat domestic wastewater with less care, it is recommended to be a pre-treatment unit in each household where central treatment plants are not accessible. |
