AbstractAn object oriented development of a decision feedback equaliser (DFE) simulation model is presented in this thesis. In particular, a transversal structure of DFE with both least mean squares (LMS) and recursive least squares (RLS) algorithms are implemented providing a general tool for simulation and analysis of DFE. The development includes problem domain analysis, object-classes design and software implementation phases, which are described in detail. The development is done under the Common Lisp Object System (CLOS) in associated with QuickSig environment, an object oriented software tool for digital signal processing research. A specific application example of the proposed DFE object classes is given in this paper by establishing a bit error rate simulation for RLS DFE. With the advantage of object orientation, the proposed work could be reused for other applications using DFE.
