Abstract | This study aims to understand the public perception of sustainable transport indicators in Thimphu city, Bhutan. This was done through a questionnaire survey to the users of transport facilities and from interviews and discussions with experts in the field of transport policy. The study examines the most dissatisfied and the most important indicator through ranking of indicators. Analysis was also done to identify the indicator that the users are least satisfied but feels is an important component of sustainable transportation, also known as disgruntlement. From the analysis, it is found that the users are most disgruntled with the accessibility for the mobility impaired, elderly and children. A customer satisfaction index called the Heterogeneous Customer Satisfaction Index (HCSI) which is based on the perception of the users for analyzing the quality of transit services was examined and for Thimphu the HCSI value is found to be 2.67 out of 5. The value converted into percentage amounts to 53.4% which means that a little more than half of the users of transport facilities is dissatisfied with the current conditions of the transport facilities. Further, One-way ANOVA and independent sample T -test were carried out to analyze the variation in perception among different socio demographic groups. Three recommendations for potential sustainable transport policies were put forward with inputs from the analysis. |
