| Abstract | Covid-19 outbroke in December 2019 in Wuhan, China and it started to spread around the world, killing thousands of people. Because of Covid-19, various kinds of industries were affected adversely and some of them were difficult to continue. Construction industry was one of them, especially, site operations as there were many Covid-19 safety rules and regulations enforced by government to follow. In this research, it identified impacts and problems regarding to Covid-19 and its safety requirements in construction operations in Myanmar. Physical distancing alone itself had set many limitations in daily site operations. The most congregated times of workers such as workers’ arrival to site and departure from site, lunch breaks, material delivery, sharing facilities, small working areas and so on. Because of physical distancing, coordination and communication methods were also changed from traditional to digital to reduce contact with each other. Others such as mandatory masks, temperature monitoring, material supply distraction and alternative work-from-home method had affected the progress of construction projects and productivity of workers and employees. As a result of practicing safety requirements and other impacts, the project schedules were significantly delayed. This research also identified the management approaches to continue construction works as much safely as possible. The study was conducted in four different types of project, namely, housing, building, factory and road construction project. Unique management approaches and common management approaches were found using cross-case analysis. It was found that accommodating workers during Covid-19 pandemic was effective and it improved the progress in some projects. New methods of material delivery, which helped to reduce congregation of workers, such as material delivered with packages and delivered outside of the site, were also observed in this research. Advantages and disadvantages on the nature and characteristic of different types of projects were also found and discussed. How construction site operations had adapted from normal site operation to that of during Covid-19 was also discussed. Finally, researcher also conducted how relationships between involved parties in construction projects were maintained in this time of Covid pandemic so that the project could continue |
