AbstractThe field of spatial epidemiology has evolved rapidly in the past two decades. This research is a brief introduction to spatial epidemiology informative system and the use of geographic informative system(GIS) on applied research in epidemiology. Disease mapping is an effective tool for explaining and predicting disease outcomes across geographic space, identifying areas of potentially elevated risk, and formulating and validating aetiological hypothesis for a disease. In this research, technical developments and opportunities to apply spatial analytic methods in epidemiology research are highlighted, focusing on methodology involving geocoding, data integration, spatial and spatio-temporal clustering to disease mapping. GIS and map generalization are combined to create a graphical map. Tools designed to facilitate the investigation process are being developed, although the availability of complete and clean health data, and appropriate exposure data often remain limiting factors. In order to make a cost effective implementation, operation and maintenance of spatial information over the web, a cheaper yet rich in feature alternative to commercial software is required which can be fulfilled by open source GIS software. The main purpose of this research is to develop a web informative system to control human health using free and open source software for further development and utilization of spatial analysis and GIS in epidemiologic research.
