AbstractWhile BIM processes are established for new buildings, the majority of existing buildings is not maintained, refurbished or deconstructed with BIM yet. Promising benefits of efficient resource management motivate research to overcome uncertainties of building condition and deficient documentation prevalent in existing buildings. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology has gained great attention in recent years. It is viewed as a low-cost alternative for local large scale aerial mapping and other applications requiring the modeling of a relative small area only. In this paper we describe our UAV mission and the data processing steps to generate a 3D model ofSV 33 (An accommodation unit in Asian Institute of Technology). On field Real-time data survey is done by Total station and drawings were made in AutoCAD with the measurements. Based on these measurements a Sketchup 3D model is made and BIM is generated for the structure. Comparison was made for both UA V and Sketchup 3D model and accuracy is checked between those two models all the components of the building are also obtained. Using UA V Health Check of the structure is also done by crack detection technique and length of the cracks are calculated. This Study highlights the principal aspects of digital photogrammetry and its applications in construction for BIM. The benefits of the use ofUAV monitoring for health check of the structure is also described here. This study provides the development of 3D structure methods, which minimize the modeling costs and this information can be helpful for facility management, reconstruction purposes and documentation
