AbstractRecently, Vietnamese Government has promulgated enlightened and timely policies to boost foreign investment in Vietnam in general, and HCM City in especial. However, there still is no lack of obstacles and troubles for foreign investors when actually entering the Vietnamese market. In the such situation, there is no lack of foreign companies that attained big success in the first few year of operation. Otherwise, some big local companies come into fiasco because of their overusing debt. Weakness in financial management of some local companies is undeniable. Basing on this remark, in the research an attempt has been made to identify the financial status of a joint venture with foreign investment capital (European-Vietnamese joint venture), to find out the differences in financial management between the JV and local company in general, and point out legal issues that impact negatively to the JV' s operation. From the analysis of the findings, recommendations are made for further improving the investment environment and financial management skills of local companies.
