AbstractInefficiency in application, water problems on small farms, need for timely treatment, increased cost of pesticides, environmental pollution, health hazard and drudgery involved in the operation have led to the development of new spraying techniques. In this conjunction, further development of hand-held spinning disc electrostatic sprayer was carried out. Major focus was to develop a compact, efficient and reliable High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS) for the electrostatic sprayer. The developed HVPS is able to deliver 3 kV de with an input of 6 V de. The power consumption is about 0.45 watt with an operating efficiency of 89 %. The overall dimensions of the HVPS are 7 cm x 5 cm x 4 cm and total cost is about US$ 6 . The electrical conductivities for Endosulphan, Monocrotophos and Fenvalerate all diluted with tap water (dilution factor of 1:3 .3, 1:25 and 1:10 respectively) were found to be nearly same as that of tap water which was 1.61 mmhos/cm. The presence of free ions in the tap water improved the electrical conductivity of spray solution thereby charge to mass ratio. This was found to be 4.92 mC/kg using Monocrotophos solution diluted with tap water for the developed sprayer.
