Abstract | The experiments in volved drying high moisture paddy using different dryingair temperatures, exposure time a nd tempering time were conducte d by using co lumn ar cross fl ow t ype dryer b oth s t atic and moving condition s . Fro m the data gain ed, it was d iscovered that goo d g r a in quality co uld be obtai n e d by using multi pass drying wit h different dr y in g co ndi tions in each pass. There were tw o import an t parameters affec t e d to qualifi e d dry in g: drying a ir temperature a nd ex po s u re tim e. To ad ju s t tho se tw o parameters s imp ly on drtf'ing operatio n, th e gra in t em perat ur es s hould certainly b e controlled within 45 c Milling quality evalu at ion in s t atic co ndition resulted that using 50 and 60 0 c drying a ir temperature un der 10 min an d 20 min exposure time in each pass affected to the better h ead rice yie ld if co mp ared to drying with the higher air temperature (mor e th an 60 °c) and with the lon ger exposure time (more than 20 min). Furthermore, there were not any s i gn ifi cant difference in HRY at different portions of the co lumn under air temperature of 60 and 70 °c wi th the f i rst pass of 30 mi n exposure time a nd the IM C of 24% (w. b.) pa dd y. For t h e co mm erc ial rice dryer, the revolution of motor drove rotary d i scharge was se l ected at 850 , 990 and 14 00 rpm. w hi ch gave th e exposu r e t ime of 25 , 20 and 15 min. respectively. The dr y in g a ir temperature co uld use th e maximum of 120 °c with 25 min expos ur e t ime for t h e first p ass wh en IMC was above 23% (w. b.) a nd it s h o uld pe red u ce d a bout 10 -2 0 °c a nd a l so the expos ure time for the following pass. Finall y , the total cost of power cons umption for drying by the modified co lumn ar dryer was about 8 baht/ton-% of moisture re moval which was lower tha n the or i ginal design co lumn ar dryer (10.07 baht/ton-% of moisture removal). |
