Abstract | Steel making is a basic industry for a country's development. The process of steel making is very complicated. It needs not only high-tech machines but also high-skill employees. Therefore, studies on the relationship between the two aspects of technology component and technology capability is important for the development of steel industry. This research study proposes a framework for the assessment of the technology components in terms of their degree of sophistication and technology capabilities in terms of selfreliance. The framework is designed to facilitate the identification of strengths and weaknesses of the firm with respect to the best practice elsewhere. Specifically, the framework helps to identify the interrelationship between the degree of sophistication and self-reliance in the level and status of the important components of technology (technoware, humanware, inf01ware and orgaware). The analysis points out that the firm's strengths are in technoware and orgaware; while weaknesses are in humanware, inforware and technology generation capability. |
