Abstract | A great deal has been written and spoken about electronic data interchange (EDI) in the purchasing and distribution of goods and services. However, the processing of these transactions is not complete without the banking institutions, the agents in closing the EDI loop. This paper attempts to define the role of banks in completing the buying cycle with the use of EDI. Essentially, it pr esents case studies on EDI influence in improving internal efficiency, enhancing company productivity and finally positioning for a strategic advantage by corporate banks. In the course of the study, the author modifies a useful framework in analyzing the significant impacts of information tec hnology on a firm and provides important considerations to top management and suggests key policy issues to government in adopting, implementing and operating EDI technology. |
