AbstractIt is an exploratory research. The research tries to investigate how managers in the electronics and electrical appliance industry in Indonesia respond to AFTA agreement. The specific objectives are finding out their perception of AFTA as an opportunity and a threat, their strategic responses, and also exploring the relationship between perception-strategic response variables and demographics variables as well as finding out the underlying themes behind the sfrategic variables. To attain these objectives, a framework is built based on literature review. Based on this framework, a set of questionnaire is also developed. The questionnaire is distributed among 31 respondents through visiting companies. The collected data is processed with SPSS/PC+ version 4 software package. The results are displayed as mean, error, factor (analysis) and correlation values. Although some aspects show a pessimistic perception, in general AFTA is seen as an opportunity. The result also shows that the respondents emphasis on operational aspects to be the higher priority
