Abstract | An essential purpose of a telephone connection is to provide a transmission path for between a talker's mouth and the ear of a listener. The effectiveness of speech communication over telephone connection and customer satisfaction is a subjective matter and depends on the loudness loss which is provided. As the total resistance of the local loop varies with subscriber loop length, the loop current and speech signal level (loudness loss) also varies. For case and uniformity of telephone use, it is desirable that speech on all calls arrive at the telephone, about the same volume, regardless of loop length. To achieve this, automatic line compensation circuits arc employed in the telephone set. The primc factor which effects the performance of the telephone set is the balancing network. With the new developments it is possible to implement the adaptive balancing network in the telephone. Therefore the new compensated telephone sets can be used for longer subscriber loop, with better performance. |
