AbstractFor many computer applications, Computer Assisted Interpretation System is one of most important and interesting that involves the remote sensing technology. Land use and land cover is needed and managed for planning. Interpretation of land cover is one of the most significant assistances because it describes what and where the land cover is. Since the satellite data are large and they comprise various channels or bands and multispectral data, interpretation must be tediously repeated. Computer is suitable for this tasks. Training is the first process of system and result of this process represents the mean of spectral value in each main type of land cover. The appropriated bands are selected to categorize the main type of land cover by the minimum distance to means method. After the main land cover information is presented, each of them will be detailed by considering the characteristics in the appropriate band and/ or NVI. The final land cover images are compared to the information collected from the field observation. The image interpreted by using bands 4 and 5 provides the best accuracy (92%) of all pairs.
