AbstractThe latest agricultural reform has brought about many changes in Agriculture in the Red River Delta. The aim of this study is to evaluate the changes in. Rice-based cropping systems, which reflected the changes in production behavior of individual household operators. The study also aimed to identify factors affecting crop production systems in the new context of the market- oriented economy being practiced in the recent years in the country. Based on farm survey data, some farm models of cropping systems have been developed for the different Groups of households in study sites .These models can be used as a guideline for farmers in selecting options in their farms . The results of the study indicated that farm income in the survey sites significantly improved mainly due to intensification and crop diversification after 4- year adoption of the reform. The changes in crop production systems have an obvious impact on livestock production systems. Distance to market centers and household income levels were found to be the main factors considerably affecting crop production systems in the area. Pricing system was identified as playing a leading role in selection of cropping patterns by the households located at different distances to the market centers.
