AbstractGeotechnical factors and other data are taken into account to select the suitable site for, solid waste disposal for the Bandung Basin. The geotechnical factors include geology, hydrogeology and geological hazards , whereas the other data are wind directions , landuse , distance from the main source of solid waste and accessibility . Geograph ic I nformation System (GIS) , especially the Arc/Info software is used to compile, overlay and to draw the spatial data, then the other data are considered separately . There are seven suitable sites for sanitary landfill, whose total area is roughly 35.51 km2 , and are expected enough for some 27 years . The all selected sites are located on the aquitard zones which are mostly composed of the soil of the old volcanic products. The selected sites in the north hilly areas are theparts of the regional recharge area , whereas the suitable site inthe south is situated in the local recharge area. Finally, its advantages compared to the plain area are discussed .
