Abstract | In this study, the justification methodology for flexible manufacturing system is proposed. The procedure combines the two sequential procedures, i.e. tactical and strategic justification. Tactical justification includes both technical and economic considerations. The Net Present Value (NPV) method is advocated as the tool for the tactical justification. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is recommended for the final strategic justification because of its intuitive appeal, the robust methodology underlying its measurement theory, its ease of use and ability to structure any multi-person, multi-dimensional problem. A case study is carried out on Engineering Products Company (EPC). Three products are finally selected for the justification to FMS. By the nature of the production requirement of these product dedicated flexible manufacturing system cells are chosen in justification. |
