AbstractThe present study concerns with the research, development and implementation of an Object Oriented application software for representation and visualization of features for a set of rotational parts. The methods and techniques applied in this study are based on the Object Oriented approach and feature manipulation using integration of data and knowledge. Objectoriented programming technique supports the user definition of features that may be positioned and manipulated in a logical fashion. To appropriately represent .the family of design features, a representation scheme called as FEATURE PRIMITIVE STRUCTURE (FPS) has been proposed. The scheme is basically responsible to capture and assimilate the decomposition, taxonomies, consistency and validation relationship among objects of design domain. Feature knowledge is available in the form of methods in the various classes developed for rotational parts under consideration. A prototype system has been developed to realize the above idea. The visualization module developed is integrated to the design module and is also able to transfer data to AutoCAD in DXF format for final documentation of the part.
