AbstractThe need for resource utilization and wastes reduction at the source inspired mathematical modelling of general production systems. In this study AIT's campus with its 120 ha of land, including rice field of 15 ha, was considered as a system. A Turbo Pascal program was written for bio-energy management and applied to AIT's campus. The program used input-output analysis method and steady state mathematical modelling. The biomass energy production capacity of AIT's campus was analyzed. Different management options containing anaerobic digestion and direct combustion of biomass were considered. The results show that West End Development Project is the most important biomass source. Biogas was considered an appropriate technology for biomass energy utilization on campus. The amount of estimated biomass fuel on the campus was sufficient to run a biofuelled power unit with an output not greater than 6.6kW.
