AbstractIn this study, past energy consumption in the economic sectors of Vietnam, namely Industry, Household and Commerce, Transport and Agriculture in the period 1980-1990 is analyzed. The historical analysis consists of an economic analysis and a techno-economic analysis. Through these analysis, trend and factors behind the evolution of the past energy consumption are to be defined. It was found that the growth of the past energy consumption of in Industry and Transport has a trend very similar to that of the industrial output and Gross Social Products. Future energy demand of the industrial sector up to year 2005 is projected in three different scenarios, i.e low, base and high cases, using the Energy Demand Model for the Developing Countries (MEDEE-S). The impacts of the most important factors such as efficiency of fossil fuels for heating as well as energy intensity of Non-metal industry are investigated in a sensitivity analysis.
