AbstractA case study of the hydraulic network models is created for Macao water supply network. This network has been existing about several decades and has undergone rapid replacement during the past decade. Now it is neede d to update the network data taking into account growth in demand and new pipes installed. Using PICCOLO software the network simulation was performed for the 1991 existing ne twork. One of the difficulty problems in developing good hydraulic models of water distribution networks is the allocation of water demands to nodes. Area method is used in this study. The water con s umption for every s mall area is calculated and distributed to the corresponding nodes. Big cons umers is dealt with ยท individually. The water consumption data of Peak months (July, August, and September, 1991) are used for calculation . The simul ated result agrees with the actual operational situation. Further calibration is needed in order to establish a ve ry good hydraulic model. The analysis of the network s hows that the network runs quite well. Most of the nodes are a t a pressure between 50 and 60 meters. Only the pressure at three node s are below 30 me ters. The water velocities in mo st pipes are equ a l or lower than 0.5 m/s. But, in a few main pipes, the water velocities are higher than 1 . 5 m/s. The case study g ives useful background information on the Macao water s u pply. The a n a lysis of energy consumption shows that the specific pumping power reduced greatly from 1982 to 1991.
