Abstract | By the turn of the century, Dhaka city is going to fa ce a tremendous pressure of popu lation growth and a n eventual city expansi on. But reviews of past development efforts do not show any comprehensive land u se planning attempt, apart from the Master Plan of l.959 which has been obsolete long back, to cope with this situation . RAJUK, the present planning and developmen t agency for DEMA, h as a number of limitations to administer effective planning and control over such a huge area (1528 sg .km. ). So, Dhaka cily is grow ing in an uncontrolled manner mostly through private initiatives. This Study aims to strengthen the role of Dhaka City Corporation in context to urban land u se planning and management so that in future it can participate effectively to deal with local issues.
